Grunge is described as a "hybrid between punk rock and heavy metal", but it also draws inspiration from indie rock, blues-rock, hardcore punk, hard rock and pop-rock. Some grunge bands, like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, were actually classified as metal bands before the "alternative" genre was recognized by the public.

The music is harsh, simple (but not simplistic). She is direct and unadorned. The lyrics express a rejection of materialism and the rules of today's society. They reflect the difficulty of becoming an adult, of assuming responsibilities and reject any form of morality, pushing for individualism: “Think for yourself” – a doctrine which echoes that of the punks.

Before listening to this compilation, I advise you not to wash your hair for a month and to put on your most rotten pants… yep! the one you mow the lawn with will be perfect!
