Well done Runningwild, your cool-headed dissection of the unfortunate chain of events and beyond-the-call-of-duty explanation of your decisions was polite, well balanced & to my way of thinking, overall you were more than fair. It's just unfortunate that you were put in the position of having to be 'the bad guy' in the first place, but sadly you were left no other choice.
Ultimately, people are responsible for their own actions and Vaalkoth could have chosen to reflect on his words and responses at any point and not forced your hand. Instead he chose to believe that he was being treated unfairly, despite all the evidence you provided to the contrary, and rather than admit his fair share of the blame, threw all his toys out of the pram in what amounted to an act of self-sabotage.
It is a shame, particularly as he was such a generous & active uploader and often provided interesting info and perspectives in debates, made all the more sad because it was so needless & unneccesary.
I wish Vaalkoth well, but realistically what alternative did he allow you other than to ban him?

riptorn, I think it's quite funny and stupid to say that "profanity" could warrant any sort of infraction. I saw it in the rules. In fact there is profanity IN THE RULES! Duh! But, I think being called a Nazi by some know-nothing-idiot warrants a severe reaction, and if you disagree then I am sorry your mind is that small. You can't handle the words "fuck" or "asshole"?

It's a bit weird to be replying to someone who is no longer on the board, but i'm doing so just for the record.
Unfortunately, vaalkoth is deflecting here and not reflecting on the real issues.
I did not at any point say to Vaalkoth, (or to anyone else for that matter), that i personally had a problem with anything he said, whether it contained profanity or not. For the record i don't care about swearing, i'm actually pretty foul-mouthed myself.
I merely pointed him in the direction of the forum's rules after highlighting four separate rules which he had contravened or which applied to him in his recent exchanges with or about thrashbutcher. See here:



I didn't do this to be some nit-picking arbiter of taste or decorum, but in an attempt to give him a 'heads up' that he could potentially be in hot water should he carry on in the same manner.
He seems to have taken my well-meaning gesture as some kind of attack or slight upon him, which was not my intention & should he happen to somehow read this i hope he can now see that & realise that i was actually trying to help him avoid being banned.
As he was such an active uploader and frequent commenter, it's a shame that he is no longer here on the forum, but make no mistake, it was his own continued acts of self-sabotage that led to his enforced exit.
In the wake of these events, it bears repeating that as members of Strappado's forum, we are all expected to have familiarised ourselves with his rules and to abide by them.

I agree Nokturnal Mortum ideology is controversial (like far left bands can be too), but vaalkoth's intention was clearly to share a good compil and not to promote it, it was useless to politicize it.

But it is a pity vaalkoth took that so bad and personnaly. When you share good stuff regardless politics/ideology you are called both nazi, communist, stupid religious etc by all people who can't understand you don't need to 100% agree with a band to like their stuff...

I'm sorry for vaallkhot he was maybe one of the best uploaders i don't think someone can replace him, this forum needs more uploaders and less shit commenters. But an interaction based on respect is needed for coexistence in this community. So he is well banned imho, and i'm sorry for that, hope you rethink your ideas and keep sharing incredible music in other fórums!

i was looking at this whole situation and really could not see what Thrashbutcher was doing wrong. all i saw what he was doing was giving his "Unpopular" opinions....nothing wrong that, he was civil at saying as well. but because these "Unpopular" opinions were being said in Vaalkoth's thread (this is Vaalkoth for ya, ok, i know, he's been this way for years) it "Triggered" him, because by all means, calling a band "Nazis" also means your calling HIM a "Nazi" (gotta love that assbackward's type logic).

seriously, how much more "Self Absorbed" can someone actually be?. not saying that Vaalkoth is a "Bad Guy", cause he has done some good, either it be his past stuff being a "Musician" and being in countless of bands. but......does not mean that goes for his"Actions" or "Attitudes" as a person. he's as much more of a "Adult" as Ted Nugent or Donald Trump are (i know, i went to some political territories there, but that as far as i'll get with that kind of crap).

so in all my 2 cents. the only one at fault here is Vaalkoth, who made everything about himself.

I didn't know Vaalkoth was a muscian, and i see what you're saying, but there are plenty of other people here that have been in or still are in bands, (myself included), who act in a considered & civilised manner on the forum. Ego isn't always a big part of the musicians make up.
I think in this case it was just an unfortunate combination of a quick temper, a defensive & disproportionately escalating chain of reactions, and an overall inflated sense of self-importance.
Unfortunate, unneccessary & regrettable, but hats-off to RunningWild for dealing with the whole sorry mess in such a methodical, calm manner and for explaining himself in such a clear fashion. He was more than fair and i hope he knows how much his work is appreciated.

never said that "Musicians" have "Bad Attitudes", not my intention. just stating that it's just him. from what i recall he had been banned on this forum before (due to his "Attitude") and also has been banned on other forums as well (i think he once said the Metal Archives, though let's be honest, it's easy to get Banned over there, LOL).

like i pointed out, it's him. he's always had issues. sure, not everyone is "perfect", but not every person who is a "Musician" is like him. his temper can get the best of him, cause he can't hold his "Composure".

Generally, I think one should have quite a lot of leeway to speak unfavorably about bands and artist, and simply being wrong should not be a bannable offense. If you call Dave Holland "rapist pedo", then do expect to get a reply that "hey, he was an asshole, but 'pedo' is not about that age bracket" - but you should not have to accept threats, and you should not have to expect warnings. (If you yell it in caps lock and biggest font 666 times, then expect a warning for being a notorious noise source, but that is actually something completely different!)

Now read through the lyrics of Nokturnal Mortum's song Call of Aryan Spirit. Even if you are in total denial that this 88-track album is Hitler worship, then there should not be anything bannable about calling it "Nazi".

Oh, and I have not thrown away my Judas Priest collection just because Holland was an ass, I do not throw away my Megadeth collection just because Mustaine is a conspiracy nutcase, nor my couple of Nugent discs just because he issues death threats in public - and I haven't deleted my Nokturnal Mortums either, though I wish I had pirated it instead of supporting it.

I do agree with Vaalkoth in the sense that politics don't belong here but his response to the whole thing was not exactly proportionate. I think hurling insults and down voting left, right and centre was a bit over the top. It just kind of seems like he took it personally. I think a polite reminder that this is a heavy metal music forum not a political forum and requesting that the person stay on topic would have sufficed.
Me personally, I do not care for the politics of the musicians involved. Does one have to be a satanist to listen to black metal? or a christian to listen to christian metal? If the music is good then that's all that matters. I don't want to know band members opinions regarding certain matters.
Plus, I don't think politics is a good subject to broach because it often does get people's backs up.
Just my thoughts on this matter.
