First only a name to release the albums of his son's band Bathory, Börje Forsberg established Black Mark Production in 1991 as extreme metal label releasing a variety of mainly European bands.

From 1991 until the late nineties, the label's headquarter was located in Berlin, Germany. After that, they moved back to Sweden - the label now operates from the Villa Hammerheart in Bruzaholm.
