Because i use ad-block 4-shared has recently started to make me wait 1000 seconds for a download, which is about 16 and a half minutes.
It's a pain in the arse, but i put up with it if it's something i really want.
Far from ideal though.

There's a way to bypass it.
1. Open any link on 4shared.
2. Click on 'Add to my account' button.
3. Go to your account.
4. Then find this file and click on it.
5. Next, click 'Free download'.

As you can see, there is 0 seconds instead of 20 or 1000.

yes, sometimes I will get that wait for "1000 seconds" too, no big deal, as I have other tabs opened and doing something else during the countdown.
just easier to log in instead of linking 4shared to your Facebook or other sites.

the web browser I use mainly is Mozilla Firefox, but an OLDER version, because the newer ones prevented me from copying / pasting comments onto YouTube for example.
It is not 100 % solid, but I like it better....just so sick of many applications and browsers being updated , but with added problems..
the older version of Mozilla Firefox I use (not version 43, the most recent) is this -

Well, like was said on a similar topic, viewtopic.php?f=157&t=16884&hilit=4shared

4shared emailed me a "Service abuse" complaint, but this time, it does not even identify who initiated it.

I searched,and there has been a similar file "Kiss Exposed" pdf for 5 years on 4shared, which may, or may not where I originally got it from.
I don't know unless uploaders / rippers attach their names.

Not that I have uploaded much lately, but won't be using 4shared anymore for storage.

One account and its files now blocked from public access /downloads.
From now on, will use only nonsense names on folders, and passwords on everything, and use better storage sites.

As has been said elsewhere on the forum, if everyone switches to the same host (Mega for instance), and it gets shut down at some point, then we'll lose the majority of links on the forum.
It's far better to use a diverse selection of hosting sites so that we don't end up with a forum where most of the links are dead, as we did back when Megaupload was shut down by the powers-that-be.
There are a variety of hosting sites out there & some work better than others depending on your locale, computer, settings etc.
I would encourage people to use some of the less obvious, (and better yet, Eastern European) options for the good of the future of the forum.

This is one of the main reasons why I don't upload anymore, including even the obscure releases. It's far too much of a hassle to have to arrange the archives, sit around and wait as they upload at a snail's pace, and then risk possibly having it all getting taken down within the next day. Not even YouTube is safe from this, with their "fair use" nonsense that they keep enforcing. Many channels get flagged and ultimately shut down, including those that weren't even trying to monetize off their videos.

Kim Dotcom is warning users of Mega, the cloud storage company he founded in 2013, to back up their files. According to the entrepreneur, Mega is now under the control of Bill Liu, a New Zealand-based Chinese national that is currently fifth on China's most-wanted criminal list.

In 2012, a combined effort by the United States and New Zealand governments brought Kim Dotcom’s Megaupload empire to its knees. Coordinated raids in multiple locations carried out by heavily armed officers ensured that a clear message was sent to copyright infringers.

But despite the overwhelming show of force, Dotcom refused to lie down and just a year later he launched a brand new file-hosting service. Known simply as ‘Mega’, the platform launched to great fanfare in 2013.

Mega quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the hosting market, with Dotcom promoting the platform at every turn. Nevertheless, controversy was never far away.

In September 2014, Mega was branded a “piracy haven” in a Digital Citizens Alliance report into the activities of “shadowy cyberlockers.”

As a direct consequence and under pressure from the U.S. government, in early 2015 PayPal stopped processing payments for Mega. There can be little doubt that hurt the site.

But behind the scenes other matters were becoming a distraction. In May 2015, Mega’s bid for a stock listing fell through and just two months later Dotcom’s earlier praise for the company turned sour.

“Mega has experienced a hostile takeover and is no longer in the control of people who care about Internet Freedom. The New Zealand Government and Hollywood have seized a significant share of the company,” Dotcom told TorrentFreak.

“The combined shares seized by the NZ government and Hollywood were significant enough to stop our listing on the New Zealand stock exchange.”

Dotcom had already resigned as a director of Mega in September 2013 but now he was publicly warning people against using the site.

Today Dotcom repeated those calls, warning users of Mega over what he sees as the precarious position of the company.

“Mega had to survive without a credit card payment processor for almost 2 years now. The air is getting thin. Backup your Mega files,” he told users via Twitter.

But while a lack of payment processing options certainly won’t be helping Mega, Dotcom sees more danger in the reported controller of Mega, Chinese national and New Zealand citizen Bill Liu.

Back in 2009, Liu made headlines when it was revealed that despite being wanted for fraud in China, he was granted citizenship in New Zealand. Now it’s been revealed by kiwi Prime Minister John Key that Liu is ranked number five on China’s “Top 100” extradition list.

“I haven’t seen the list, but there is a list,” Key said.

“They’ve also put out a list worldwide of the Top 100. Bill Liu is number five on it,” he said of the Chinese government.

New Zealand police have already seized millions of dollars of assets that are believed to belong to Liu, including some held in Mega, although Liu denies all wrong doing. Dotcom, however, remains unconvinced.

“The 5th most wanted criminal in China is in control of Mega and he wants to float the business in HK? Good luck,” he said this morning.

As these situations go, the short history of Mega is utterly unique. Never before has a platform in the file-sharing space had two entrepreneurs each worth millions of dollars being pursued for extradition by two of the world’s most powerful governments for entirely different reasons.

It’s currently very late evening in New Zealand so we’re not expecting an immediate response from Mega to our requests for comment. We’ll add them here as soon as they arrive.

Update: Statement from Mega chairman Stephen Hall

“Mega has significant funding and strong support from shareholders so its financial position is certainly not precarious. Dotcom’s comment is factually incorrect and the motive is unknown,” Hall informs TF.

“Mega continues to experience strong growth which illustrates the global appreciation of the quality of its services. Mr Liu has a shareholding interest but has no management or board position so he certainly doesn’t control Mega.”

Got that, thanks for the clear up. I've been using 4shared for a long time, never had an issues. I tried MEGA but it wouldn't upload for some unknown reason. I guess I continue using 4shard then. Maybe Uloz and Narod would be good choices too.

Just wanted to discuss 4shared

I've been on here for years, and just got a message from 4shared that I had a complaint against my post of Omen-Escape from Nowhere for copyright infringement. They disabled my public sharing of all of my 4shared files. This album has been out-of-print for years. I don't know who it was that complained, but I wish whoever it was would have thrown me an e-mail instead. I would have gladly removed the post. I really hope it was not a member of Omen, as I am a huge fan and meant no ill feelings in posting the record. My goal on here is not to get anyone upset, but just to keep old music from fading into obscurity. Anyway, I'm considering pulling off the blog completely and killing the links to or removing all my posts. I just don't have any interest in receiving further e-mails saying that I may or may not be violating a copyright of some sorts.
Anyway, it's just something that I'm considering in wake of getting such an e-mail from 4shared. Have you ever had any issues with 4shared?

Hello friend, do not take a hurried decision I understand your discomfort, it is a great member in the blog sharing good music from your collection, 4shared is taking certain steps that passing of the days we will announce, there are other alternatives such as Yandex, Mediafire, Mega, etc. I do not think the same member of the blog you have reported, I hope you do not let the blog !!

Yeah, 4shared has deleted my files before, and earlier this year, 4shared blocked public downloading of one of my accounts, after someone complained about an old KISS fanzine, (which was ALSO still being shared by somebody else on 4shared at the same time!).
Who knows who complained?
I might have messaged 4shared, asking who was the complainant, because it was not revealed.

Funny thing was, AFTER I downloaded every file back to myself, and re-uploaded them to Yandex, then the public sharing was open again for anybody to download my files.

I don't care anymore as I do not upload there anymore.
4shared is run by cowards and idiots, just like mediafire.

It's definitely not fun when that happens, I also have no intention of stepping on toes as above all else I'm just a fan of these bands music, and want them to be available for future fans to have access to. Often there's automatic copyright purging going on for anything on these file sharing sites that contains a band's name and album in any combination, and may not even be of the band's own doing, but a label who is still holding on to the album's rights tightly. In several cases I've seen, these old forgotten bands are thrilled to see people continuing to listen to their music and introducing it to new audiences, keeping the great small time rock acts of the past alive. I wouldn't think too much of this situation, personally, it's just extremely unlucky that it's happened. I have to honestly say you're one of the best contributors this site, and hell, the entire metal rarity community has ever seen and it would be an incredible disappointment to see you depart.

Holy shit, not again. It makes me sick that RIAA and it´s member companies are not tough enough to fight against Google´s YouTube earning millions of $$$ with illegal (music) uploads but strong enough to fight against valuable uploaders of a small board.

Take it the positive way - it´s like an award of excellence, since this happened to honorable members before (Strappado´s Mediafire Account suspended, CanadaSpaceman´s 4shared account just to name a few).
So I hope you´re not giving up, in fact it seems russian file hosters are a last resort (as of now).
Otherwise, if you´ll call it a day, be assured of fully understanding. It´d be a great loss for this forum, but (as I figured) many members don´t honor it anyway: They take it all for granted, not considering that we´re feeding them with rarities in our spare time. I´m sick of leeches always complaining about dead links, but never giving anything back or even caring about their requests (once solved of course).
Others think we´re only out to bother them if we disapprove their submissions - already had some harsh discussions about it.
@Uploaders: Please take this as warning what can happen with your account(s).
We´re disapproving not for fun but for your own safety and the health of this board.
NB: Submitting a 5cd box like Dokken (US) - Original Album Series (2009) might bring many reputation points but (for me) it feels like a purposeful death threat on this board´s existance.
If you want to check your submission against DMCA copyright complaints check out the Lumen (former Chilling Effects) site or alikes.
(Check out for example Dokken´s 5800+ complaints…)

Back to your initial question, VR. Don´t think the band is doing this themselves, don´t think it´s their management either - it´s just the (major) record labels engaging experts to set up bots for any accurance in web. - But what´s really inexplicable to me, that you were threated for exactly this release. Afaik Omen´s Escape to Nowhere was not reissued since the end of 80s. Unbelievable.
I was kind of lucky to not happen to me yet, but I´m aware that it can be the case tomorrow - who knows.

Anyway, to sum it up:
In any case be assured — and I know I´m talking for many members of our board — we all loved your huge effort in doing HQ vinyl rips and offering them in your generous manner. Big big thanks to you, VardisRules - you rule bro!

I really appreciate all the kind posts from my friends here on the blog. I'm on vacation with my family in Ocean City, Maryland, and was surprised when I checked e-mail and saw the notification. I probably read too much into it. I honestly really doubted that it would be a member of Omen, because I also have posted cassette rips of Omen's "Nightmare" and "The Curse" and heard nothing about those. I then thought that it may have been the Enigma part of the Metal Blade/Enigma rights to the record. But I have no idea who even owns the rights to those old Metal Blade/Enigma releases. I guess I could always ask my friend Matt at Tribunal/Divebomb, because he reissued the Wild Dogs-Reign Of Terror on CD. I don't even think he may know who now owns the Enigma releases. I think he issued the release, because the band members of Wild Dogs gave full support of it. Anyway, I have to say I was really surprised about the fact that it was that particular Omen record. I've made a lot of posts that are probably more on the fringe than that particular one. It ruins my ability to continue to offer releases through 4shared. They blocked all of my community file-sharing privileges. I have to go through this long process to free my files. At this point, I will probably take my toys and go play elsewhere, meaning I will reupload these files on Yandex and close my 4shared account. I'll then create new links to them, which will take some time and work. I don't want to leave the blog. I have too many very good friends that I made here, with a few of the biggest being the members who posted comments above. I just initially didn't like the idea of being harassed by 4shared, making me feel that I was doing something wrong or even illegal.

While I was thinking about it last night, I came to the conclusion that I would never leave the blog unless Strappado had to close it down for some reason. Even then, I would probably continue to communicate and share music with friends on this blog via e-mail.

Just wanted to let you know that I have already started moving my 4shared files to Yandisk. I downloaded 20 of my releases from 4shared, because it's easier than ripping them all from CD. I have uploaded 3 to Yandisk and continue to do more. I figure that it will take me about a week to complete it as I have 61 files in lossless stored on 4shared. I'm then going to close my 4shared account and start a new one. However, I will only put files on it that I want to store but not share that were given to me by others. I also plan on checking out cloud mail as an option to store more files. So, please be patient while I move files from 4shared. I have already received a few dead link notifications, which I've just ignored because I have no other choice.
