    Band Bio

Beginning in the mid-1980s every day after the Jamestown NC high & middle schools would let out, good friends Russ Hanson and David McCracken religiously converged at the available parent-less house and loudly listened to the music of their day, playing along on their guitars, consumed with learning every riff and solo. They were 14/15 years old. They had started a few bands with various friends in town and would jam with members of other established bands in the high school (eg. Sans Sobriety). Nourishing their heads daily with Metallica's Kill Em All, Mercyful Fate's Don’t Break The Oath (sic), The Misfits, Exodus, Megadeth & finally in 1986 Slayer's Reign In Blood was released and on that exact day the two started a fucking band.

Eventually joining with drummer Scott Ingold who was known to play double bass and had been with a local band, Trooper (how do I remember this?). This trio practiced and wrote songs in Scott's family basement in rural Greensboro NC. A relentless and decibel heavy ritual was only allowed to proceed by the grace of his patient Father who liked to tinker with any broken musical equipment and his almost totally deaf Grandmother. Seems like a year or more they sat in that basement and worked through early material sometimes videotaping themselves thrashing their heads about and then watching themselves thrashing about on TV and writing more. Mike Patrum came along and played bass and the quartet later moved into the Greensboro school dept.’s Weaver Center vocational facility's electronic music program where David was a student and Perpetual Iniquity recorded their first 4 or 5 song EP. Early song titles and lyrics stemmed from thumbing through the many bookshelves throughout David's house. Books, owned by his stepfather who practiced law, produced wonderful language. "Non Compus Mentis" (not of sound mind) had such a tragic and threatening tone.

The band began playing and quickly developed a fierce reputation among the other thrash bands and built a solid fan base. Perpetual Iniquity right out of the box started to kick ass and write some really thoughtful, technical music. Russ and Scott trading vocal duties (and styles) and each player developing into something special. Scott blossomed into an excellent drummer and vocalist and songwriter and guitar player and video game player simultaneously. Playing Max's Place in Greensboro NC, the Rattskeller in High Point NC, the GYC carnival, etc. the band quickly forged a bond with other heavy bands in the Greensboro area: Messiah, False Prophet and Confessor and there for a few years (that I recall) some serious shit went down. All of these bands progressed in various ways but held a strong friendship, support and competition amongst them as they all wrote new material, gained in popularity and came out with successive records.

A 2 story home off High Point Rd in Greensboro NC was the home-base of the band Messiah and that is where one would frequently find any from this group. Members jamming together in various configurations and drinking beer and playing more in other pairings and drinking and having lots of people over and drinking.

Most members are still actively involved in music and have done a myriad of different things since these days in the late 1980s and very early 90s. This was a special time in Greensboro NC when heavy, very heavy & well played metal was just fucking awesome. That shit was bad ass.
