BLACKOUT were a NWOBHM quintet formed in Falkirk, Scotland, in the late 1970's, initially under the name PHORAX, who played more in the Progressive Rock vein.
In time, many of the more overtly progressive elements of their music were discarded & the band changed their name to Blackout in 1980 to reflect their stylistic change.
After a few years spent gigging & writing material, they secured a deal to record a single for the independent Jammy Records label.
The single, 'Is There Anything?', was released in 1984, with 'All I Needed' appearing on the B-Side.
Despite the small budget involved, the record was housed in an eye catching picture sleeve, and unlike many independent records of the era was particularly well recorded & produced.
Blackout then recorded a 5 song demo tape later in the year, but despite the promise those recordings showed, the band were becoming disillusioned by the lack of label interest.
After almost a decade together, Blackout split up in early 1986.
