For those of you who don't know the importance of THE HANDSOME BEASTS, they were one of the coolest bands of the NWoBHM period and the very first signing to the legendary Heavy Metal Records.
Formed as far back as 1972, the band went through a myriad of members before settling on a line up of Garry "Flabby" Dallaway on Vocals, Bassist Steven Hough, Drummer Pete Malbasa, and Guitarist Phil Aston.
By 1980, Handsome Beasts had well & truly paid their dues, playing all the clubs and pubs throughout the Midlands.
Their hard-rocking fare, amusing song subjects, and Dallaway's powerful, soulful voice helping them become quite the crowd-pleasers.
Their debut 7" single "All Riot Now" with "The Mark Of The Beast" on the flipside was released in 1980, and naturally was the first thing that Heavy Metal Records ever released.
In 1981, two further 45s, "Sweeties" & the "Breaker" EP were released, with a four song Friday Rock Show session also recorded at the BBC's Maida Vale studios by request of DJ Tommy Vance.
Late in 1981 the band released their excellent debut LP "Bestiality", a rocking set of dynamic bluesy Hard Rock & Metal, with Dallaway's vocals evoking DIAMOND HEAD's Sean Harris & Kenny Stewart of DIRTY TRICKS.
The LP attracted attention not only because the music was uniformly excellent, but also because of the instantly recognizable and bizarre album cover, featuring a naked Dallaway and a perplexed looking pig.
Despite positive reviews for the record, the band struggled to maintain a steady line up which hobbled their progress.
They continued breaking up and making up through several different lineups, before finally releasing a 2nd LP, "The Beast Within" in 1990.
Another album was recorded during the '90's entitled "Little Sister", but it was never released due to Heavy Metal Records going bankrupt.
2004 saw the band finally release their 3rd album, "04", and taking part in a nostalgia tours with other NWoBHM bands such as TYGERS OF PAN TANG.
Sadly, vocalist Garry Dallaway suffered a fatal heart attack on August 20, 2006, but the band carries on to this day.
"Rock And A Hard Place" their most recent album, was released in 2007, and alongside Dallaway's final recorded vocals also featured UFO/WAYSTED Bassist Pete Way & QUIREBOYS singer Spike singing back up.
The Handsome Beasts are still out there rocking hard, and when last sighted were fronted by former WRATHCHILD/DISCHARGE vocalist Rocky Shades.

My pleasure Strappado, i found it on an old disc and thought i'd throw it up as i hadn't seen it posted.
Nice to know there's still some love and respect out there for the ole Beasts.
I always felt they deserved to be held in higher regard.

I believe the Handsome Beasts session was re-broadcast later in the same year, likely on the later date which you quoted.
Many of these studio sessions were re-broadcast on the show 2 or 3 times, as was concert material (or single songs taken from previously broadcast full-length concerts).
