I grew up loving Loudness. The years with Mike Vescera were also very good. I even liked some of their stuff with Masaki Yamada (EZO) on vocals. I was stoked when I first heard years ago that Minoru Nihara was coming back to the fold. Their latest albums for me totally killed their legacy. The music sounds like nu-metal. Riffs are still heavy, and still sound like Loudness, but the vocal stylings and songwriting are totally nu-metal. It killed it for me. One of my favorite bands is Genocide (Nippon). They have a very heavy and dark sound. Like the Japanese King Diamond.

Off the top of my head, I dig -
Loudness
EZO

I don't have too much downloaded of Japan bands as other countries. Not sure I even own anything from there.
Lots of talent there.
SIGH is pretty cool.

Early X Japan is also very nice.

I love the line up with Yoshiki, Toshi, Jun (Rommel, Emperor) and Hikaru (Rommel, Mephistopheles)

This song is written by Jun, just awesomeness.

I love Japanese metal.

It's really hard to deciede, but I would say Kuroageha (Dear Hitler, google it, awesome song) is perhaps my favourite Speed/power metal band from Japan. Rosenfeld defently for thrash metal, I really hope they release a new album, I'm hungry for some new Rosenfeld. Well.. Harkenkreuz, Rommel, Mein Kampf and Doom also.

As Gish said, early X was pure speed. Loved the I'll kill you tape, and also the song Bloody Rain.

.. I got a bit of track, but I would say X Japan to be the best band out of Japan, mostly because of their performace, image and songs (Nobody will ever write anything like Art of Life).

So nobody knew the Japanese Deep Purple?
This is a song from their '75 debut album.

FUN FACT: The band name, Murasaki, is the Japanese word for Purple.

EDIT: I just saw Murasaki being mentioned here by mothra666.. after I posted this. **ck me. :P
