Pekka Ansio Heino (Leverage,Brother Firetribe,Cashmir)

Now that is a nice list. Thanks a lot for adding the bands to the names. Very complete ! (clap4)
It strikes me once again how many singers are active in several bands.
My 17 year old daughter (who is a hiphop/rap fan... I know... SHOOT ME) finds this very strange.
She says in her ... well... music (???) world this is not the case AT ALL ?

Could this be a unique thing for metalbands ?

read it with the greatest attention.
You are so right about the fact that a vocalist should not have THE perfect voice.
Singers with dedication and love for the music, although not technically superb can add quite a lot
to our beloved metal.

Guess I should make another list... (hmm)

Thanks for the kind words Shadowman, i suppose it comes down to a matter of taste, but i've always felt that a voice with character often triumphs over technique as it provokes more of an emotional response to the music.
The same theory can be applied to guitarists too.
For instance, Angus Young or Tony Iommi have instantly recognisible sounds and whilst they probably couldn't play what the younger "shred" guys can do, they manage to imbue their playing with emotion and soul, a quality that seems to have been schooled out of their fleet fingered quasi-classical counterparts.
I also think that sometimes the limitations of a singer's range can be a positive thing and can help a band achieve a recognisable sound.
The music inevitably has to compliment the voice, and once you know where the singer can't or won't go, the songwriting gradually evolves to accomodate this.
Occassionally you get a one-off like Dio or Halford who is blessed with a distinctive voice full of character, and is also blessed with incredible technical ability, but they seem to be once in a generation talents.
God bless 'em.

["malinku"] "These are my favorites that were not already posted already.

Joel Dubay - (Powermad)

John Gallagher - (Raven)

Peter Wagner - (Rage)

Mark Antoni - (Realm)"

...I agree with you on these guys. It's good to see somebody give notice to these criminally underappreciated vocalists. Of course Wagner and Gallagher are still at it, but I wish Dubay and Antoni were still making recordings. Especially M. Antoni; he had one of the greatest Metal voices ever.

In addition to these vocalists, here's my list...

James Rivera (Helstar)
Guy Speranza (Riot)
Brian Troch (Cyclone Temple)
Keith Deen (Holy Terror)
Stacy Anderson (Hallow's Eve)
Joe Bellardini (Anthrax)
Bruce, of course (Iron Maiden)
John Bush (Armored Saint) NOT (Anthrax)
Charles Sabin (Toxik)
Chuck Billy (Testament)
Nicole Lee (Znowhite)

A lot of people leave bands and join/start new ones due to musical differences. That probably never happens in the rap scene, since the music is unimportant, and is created by the producer instead of the performers. What would an argument be like?

"I don't like that beat, it's too slow."
"How about this one?"
"Yeah, that's better."

Awesome! Most of my favorites have been mentioned before, like KLAUS MEINE, KING DIAMOND, RUSS NORTH of Cloven Hoof, BLACKIE LAWLESS, but also PHIL LYNOTT, and of course MARK 'THE SHARK' SHELTON from Manilla Road! He has such a powerful and distinctive voice, it absolutely rules! I'm not usually a fan of female vocals in heavy metal at all, but JEX THOTH is for sure an exception...

And of course DIO, ROB HALFORD, BON SCOTT. I know it's not metal, but LISA GERRARD and BRENDAN PERRY from Dead Can Dance are unbelievable...
