Those 5 that sacreddeath stated are all very good, but in all 5 cases I prefer the original. Got to state a couple obvious ones where the cover was far better than the original, Judas Priest "Diamonds and Rust" and "Green Manalishi".

Seven Witches covered Metal Daze ? Very curious, hope I can find that on You Tube.

And indeed : most covers cannot top the original.
But yes Witchcross, there are exceptions and you gave two perfect examples.
Gonna run cross my collection to search a few myself...

I love the BEATLES, but just listened again to Realm's Endless War, and the version of Eleanore Rigby there just smokes.

I honour The Beatles as fantastic songwriters while I think there performance is lacking, too tame and technically limited. So there are a bunch of covers of them, who suit me better than the original. "Eleanor Rigby" certainly is the most covered Beatlessong in the metalscene, that violin-theme is just perfect to showcase the abilities of a guitarplayer.

And a thousand more! I can say that i'm proud from the quality of too many bands of heavy metal that have the best music and the best covers. It's for that thing that I'm glad of hear it.

I think you may have misunderstood there man. This topic is about bands playing covers, not the actual covers of vinyls/cd'... For example : Girlschool covered the song 'Tush' from ZZ top... That kind of covers...
