General Metal Discussions » Suggestions on Satanic/blasphemous + thrash/punk/motorhead styled NWOBHM bands
This is a mixed list, any NWOBHM acts that were considered satanic or blasphemous at the time, as well as dirtier sounding, punk/thrash styled motorhead influenced NWOBHM bands. In otherwords the NWOBHM bands that were just too fuckin cool... Evil, blasphemous, & dirty sounding fucking NMWOBHM!

Here's a short list by me. I hope people here can list some bands I havent heard of yet.... LIST AS MANY BANDS AS YOU WANT

venom
warfare
atomkraft
demon pact
robespierre
cloven hoof
pagan altar
dragonslayer
slayer (uk)
witchfynde
battleaxe
hell
satan
Tank
Traitors Gate
Satans Empire

Now you see what kind of bands I'm looking for... So impress us by listing more in the same vein!

Is there satanic/blasphemous content in Satan? I never saw anything like that. Ditto for Battleaxe. Other bands like Cloven Hoof shown some obscure lyrics, but nothing offensive. Maybe the darkest song of them is the self-titled Cloven Hoof. Nothing unlike old Megadeth, for example.

I guess I should have clarified better... satanic/blasphemous for the time. Since there wasnt anything like that type of stuff going on then. The same way you would consider black sabbath evil for 1971 compared to everything else back then. But NWOBHM had really the first bands to cross that line, so of course alot of it would still be kinda tounge in cheek, but extreme as fuck for the time.

But this is also a mixed list blasphemous as well as bands with a that dirty sound, or more punkier, thrashier, motorhead influenced. Which battleaxe i'd say falls good into that second catagory, however listen to the lyrics on "ready to deliver" especially the second verse. Definatly some pretty satanic and apokalyptic shit for it's time.

And as far as satan, thats a hell of a name for a band that formed in 79. But listen to the 1981 demo, pretty evil lyrics for it's time. but it's also kinda got that evil dirty sound i'm talkin about. But let me end with a qoute from the song blades of steel "Driven by the power of Lucifer and Thor!"

Witchfinder General and Angel Witch should be included for the lyrical content and the artwork. There are quiet a few bands that had one or two songs with"evil" lyrics, but not many who ocncentrated on that kind of lyrics.
Although it's not NWOBHM there are several bands in the early 70ies with occult themes: Black Widow, Necromandus, Atomic Rooster, Coven etc. .

For the name...
court in the act is one of the best albums in the NWOBHM.

Weird nobody said anything about Mercyful fate, must be too obvious. There was also Hellhammer, which is pretty much the same Celtic frost, but their early works as Hellhammer were more satanic oriented and they had that rough Hardcore/meets black sabbath sound you're looking for.

Stormwitch also, though they are more power metal nowadays they did had a lot of NWOBHM in them back when they tapped walpurgis night:

Tysondog (They Also Have That Thrashy Yet Heavy Punkish NWOBHM Punch Much Like in the Vein as the Mentioned Avenger & Satan)
Deep Machine (They Also Had the Satanic Ocult Theme as Well)

And also,

Quartz - Satan's serenade + Stoking up the fires of hell.
Wolf - See them running
Fist - Devil rise

Some of Demon's early work had many references to the occult in songs such as "Under the spell" and "Don't break the circle".

I'm starting to get some good ideas for a playlist thanks to this thread :)
