What If Metallica did a NWOBHM tribute album?

What songs should they cover, let me have your sugestions.

To kick things off, here is what I submit:

Sweet Savage: Eye of the Storm or Into the Night
Blitzkrieg: Armageddon

Didn't they do this already with Garage Inc., plus all of the cover songs on rehearsal tapes?

In an old interview (probably I seen it in Metallic Assault zine, 1985), Lars said one of the songs covered at Metallica's start was Silverwing's "Rock N Roll Are 4 Letter Words".
Surprised they never recorded that one yet.

Thanks for the tidbit on Silverwing.

There is some NWOBHM (7 out of 27 songs) on Garage inc. but it's not a NWOBHM tribute album.

Anyway, this not in any way a realistic scenario. It's, just for fun, what this board thinks would make good covers in term stylistic fit. A wish list of sorts. IMHO it would probably be a better album than what they put out in the last 20 years! :-)

I'm not too fond of the idea of 'tallica doin' a NWOBHM tribute album in this day and age due to multiple factors but hey, a man can dream.

I nominate Blitzkrieg's Inferno and Tank's Shellshock, they could kick the record off with the latter so people can know where the fuck Hit the Lights' intro came from.

I'd be interested to hear what they could do with some of the more technically accomplished NWoBHM bands, so how about something from the Legend (Jersey) catalogue?
They've got a lot of light & shade in their music & the twiddly technical bits always make me think of Metallica.

Perhaps 'Warrior' from the 'Death In The Nursery' record?

Or maybe 'Ashes To Ashes' by the similarly 'twiddly' Limelight?

Then for a bit of stylistic contrast, Demon Pact's 'Eaten Alive' could sound great with Trujillo powering it along.

They could even turn it into a medley by combining it with The Handsome Beasts similar sounding 'Sweeties':

Finally, though it's not a NWoBHM song, but i always thought Metallica could do a great job of covering April Wine's 'Silver Dollar'.
Every time i hear it i can't help but imagine Hetfield singing it.

After giving that last album, Hardwired... to Self-Destruct, many tries, and only liking a handful of songs across 3 discs, they should have done another covers album again instead.

it wouldn't even have to be NWOBHM,
I would be happy to hear James singing Aerosmith's Toys in the Attic or something else that meant a lot to him before he started Metallica.

I was looking at the topic like Root (Cze) - 7 Černých Jezdců / 666 [Single] (1990) [Wrong Speed]
I sometimes have made mistakes when ripping 7" singles/EP's, as many no longer list the speed to play on the printed labels.

There was a blogspot many years ago, that shared "Metallica 1984 Ride the Lightning (33rpm Vinyl Rip)[slow crust sound now] RIPPED AT SLOW SPEED", where I think they took the double vinyl version pressed at 45 rpm, and ripped it at 33 rpm, so it sounded really slow and heavy and morbid.

I was surprised to se a request somewhere for it. Not even sher why I saved it, as it is only something to hear once as a curiosity.

They should leave more NWOBHM songs alone. So that way I don't have to put up with idiots who comment "this version sucks! Metallica SAVED this song!" everywhere.
