Greetings,

I'm Sergej, a former member of Unicorn, a german
metal band of the 80ies, which has come to a
certain attention in this forum. A couple of weeks
ago Holger asked me, if he could send some
tracks of mine to Stappardo and informed me later,
that "King of the Southern Cross" made it into
Youtube. Stappardo did an awesome job with the pics!!
I did this tune in 1996 with totally other equipment
and agree to some of the complaints about
the production. So I decided to redo this song from
the ground up, trying to preserve its inherent
spirit and to put it into the production state I'm
working on now, far away from pro standards tho,
but at least listenable in respect of the fact
that this is a one man show from the first played
note to the final master. I overhauled the
Orchestra mainly by adding woodwinds and brass and
sang one octave higher to put melody and words
where they belong, the rest is pretty much the
same despite of the fact, that I played it all
once again, guitars, a real bass this time,
drum programming with Superior Drummer if someone
out there want's to know.

All the stuff was done during the last 3 years
after an eight year long break from music. As you
notice, there's neither a new chapter of
contemporary composition being opened nor is this
a shiny performance of a promising soloist. Anyway
- I like the material and there could be someone
out there who finds it worth listening to beside
from Holger and my cat. I'm just another guy who
managed to preserve some dreams of the youth and
didn't nail that axe on the wall.

Sergej first of all I want to thank you for all great music we got the chance to hear trough Holger and you.
I could never imagine there was so much more work recorded with the geniuses behind UNICORN and
I am so glad so to see you signed up here to share even more with us!

I will replace the old "King of the Southern Cross" recording with the new one if it's your wish :)
I think both versions are great, though the new version ofc sounds more proffessional
The lyric and music writing is just amazing and you proved that that a song can be totally awesome
even with simple equipment.

I saw in the tags that you tagged the tracks with the album name 'Silent Chamber'.
Is this an actual release avaiable on CD / CD-R? Just PM me in that case and I will gladly buy a copy from you.

Swede i doubt he's got a recorded release on CD or anything like that because of what he said up there, but what i don't doubt is that he's got the material to easily put one together, well we practically have one, with all the songs he posted up there, and the other two we got back on the other thread. Now to the songs, i loved that flamenco intro in "The Piper", pretty much my favorite song of the ones posted, and the new "King Of The Southern Cross" sounds more power metal than the old version, though i won't deny the old version sounds more atmospheric to me (might be because of the rough production) i'm still glad i can understand the lyrics a lot better now. Is that a fucking tambourine i hear in "The Prowler"? you really went to town with the guitars in that one BTW. I liked the songs, you really did your homework when it comes to folk middle-eastern and european traditional music, also very rainbow-ish old school rock 'n roll keyboards, thanks for sharing bro.

@ Hellraiser : You were right, I never released anything, I'm thinking about uploading images of the CD's somewhere for you guys to download them, especially the wav files of the new songs sound somewhat better than the mp3's at 320 kbps. I need to find the webspace, perhaps I'll get one in may or so - we'll see.

But for mere peeking-in-purposes the stuff which is there will do; I set up a website back in 2003 and never touched it ever since:

There's one old song left called "Better it's you, better than me" which I have yet to upload, reflecting the child abuse happening in Belgium around 1996, this one seems to have inspired Holger and Living Daylight for their second CD. You should hear this one too, so there's some stuff left for further postings hehe..

The master of the new version "King of the Southern Cross" might be a litte on the boomy side on some systems, I have a version with more top and less low end: KotSC with top end

And finally: Yes, Hellraiser, that's a freaking tambourine on the prowler, LOL

great stuff, Sergej, very impressive, I'm listening to Silence is Golden now and really liking it, it's heavy and very melodic and atmospheric without losing the edge. Before that, listened to the remake of King and really enjoyed that as well!
Thanks for sharing these, I will definitely be listening to them a lot, glad that the Axe is not collecting dust!

I loved main street hop, so irish/scottish sounding, and again the guitar... since the beginning of the song is a face-melting fest, can't wait for you to upload them to make a mix tape with all that stuff. What's up with the alien landscape graphics in the web site if may i ask? was that a project of some kind or just you messing around? i always liked that kinda stuff, pretty much like this one:

it's like an ice planet orbiting around a white dwarf or something.

No Hellraiser, no special project, as I mentioned in the descriptional text, just some messing with Bryce at that time with nothing special in mind. Angry enough btw. that the site can be viewed best with internet explorer, the only browser to display it in full screen, Chrome or firefox just display it in the upper left corner :(

Although I'm not generally too big fan of symphonic stuff this sounds very good. "King of the southern cross". I like the melodies and guitarplaying -- keep up the good work! There's something in the melody and instrument playing that definitely stands out in my humble opinion. :)

Inspires me to check out songs of Unicorn as I've never heard them.
