A 2nd track from the forthcoming album has dropped & it's crushingly brilliant.

No problem Emil, it almost passed me by too amid everything else that's currently happening.
I've been so impressed by the way CU have conducted their re-emegence. By all acounts the live shows have been absolutely stellar, (and last years live album/dvd package certainly bore those reports out, a genuinely essential live album in 2019, who saw that coming?), and it sounds lke they've found just the right balance in recreating their classic sound whilst still reaching for something new with the fresh material that's come to light as well.
The only thing i'm slightly disappointed by is that the new album doesn't include the godly 'Witches Game' single as well, but that's a minor gripe.
A decade ago, who would have predicted that the band would ever come back together at all? It's to their huge credit that they've done so in such an organic & initially cautious way, being so careful not to tarnish their mighty legacy, whilst so many of their one-time 'peers' have badly fumbled the ball & trampled on their past.
All other acts considering reuniting should closely examine & learn from how Cirith have done it. They've set the new bar.

There was another new Cirith Ungol release which just went under the radar, namely a flexidisc which was exclusively available to Decibel magazine subscribers containing a new recording of the vintage Ungol track 'Brutish Manchild'.
Hopefully it'll become available on a decent quality format at some point as the flexi sounds pretty ropey, at least in the rip used for this YT vid.

I've got this on order but Metal Blade is apparently closed and Christ only knows when that walking, talking vagina of a governor in California will let them re-open and start shipping.

A bit of a short disc, just under 40 minutes. I'm definitely liking what I've heard so far. Kind of like their classic style with a 2020 upgrade. It will definitely be in regular rotation.

Arrived in the mail on Friday & i've been listening to it non-stop since.
Liking it a lot on first impression, it sounds a very worthy addition to the band's recorded legacy. All the classic Ungol trademark quirks are present & correct with a few new added wrinkles too. Sounds like an entirely natural progression from where they left off 3 decades ago. If i was being really critical i'd say that the album's longest track 'Nightmare' is probably my least favourite song on the record, but it may well still grow on me.
It's still amazing to me that we're even discussing a new CU album at all, it's so great to have them back.
