Wow! I'm really speechless - very nice compilation! As a longtime fan and completist concerning Dio, Rainbow, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kansas (and Kerry Livgren), Yngwie, and all the relations / side-projects - there is still stuff here I don't have. Great compilation compiled by a REAL FAN!! Cheers Jason and many thanks!

Thanks guys for your good words! For a while - until I saw your posts - I thought that nobody was interested for this, even that it got some rare and difficult to find stuff included that you can't find on Dio's discography. Beside this also I found almost everything from Ronnie's early carreer (like 'Ronnie & The Redcaps 1958-60', 'Ronnie Dio & The Prophets [1962-7]', 'Electric Elves [1967], 'The Elves [1969-71]' 'Elf [1972-75]'). Rockabily and Blues rock!

    Huh, this?

14 Dio [1986] - Stars (Live) (from Hear N' Aid single)

Didn't the (maxi) single contain the long and the short version?

By the way, there are a couple of more collaborations on this boot:
    https://metalgabu.blogspot.no/2010/10/r ... -2008.html
(That one has "God Hates Heavy Metal" instead of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (:D) )

Both versions are included - check #12
12 Hear N' Aid (feat. Dio) [1986] - Stars (Extended)

"God Hates Heavy Metal" is a bonus track on "Angry Machines" album, so it wasn't included - it's not a collaboration by the way!

Yes, but is #14 really from any edition of the single? Mine has a shorter edit of the same recording.

Most of them got the extended or the 5:10 sec edited version.
There is also another one edited version thats about 4:40 sec. https://www.discogs.com/Hearn-Aid-Stars/release/4386103
I also got the video edited version 4:08 sec

    The 12" Maxi-single had 2 versions -
    A1 Stars 7:04 studio/video version
    B1 Stars 4:43 studio
    B2 4 1/2 Minutes News [Interview] 5:00
    https://www.discogs.com/Hearn-Aid-Stars/release/4006797

    what Jason shared -
    12 Hear N' Aid (feat. Dio) [1986] - Stars (Extended) (7:18)
    14 Dio [1986] - Stars (Live) (from Hear N' Aid single)(4:38)

Track 14 mp3 details inside say this is from the 2003 album "On The Side" ,and I can only find sites selling that one as a digital download with no details.
I guess it is a bootleg?
anyways. Jason DID SAY it was a bootleg comp he made, and a well made one.
    (glad)

    I think track 14 is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FODHcJ18Cak / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zywSkuajRLU
It claims to be from a charity concert in Tokyo in October 1987 (Hurricane relief, then?) in which case it is not from Hear'n Aid. There is no mention of "Stars" at Setlist.fm until mid 1986, which was after the Hear'n Aid release. And from the video, it is not Viv Campbell playing guitar, it must be Craig Goldy. So it is indeed Dio as Dio.

jasonkont links to the 884 004-1 which - or at least one of those with that number - has the shorter studio version. (Which is actually not as long as 5:10, vinyl track lengths are often quoted incorrectly.)

Yes indeed the track #14 is from a 2003 bootleg compilation named "on the side". At this compilation this track is mentioned as "from Hear n Aid live". Because it's a bootleg probably you are right as I'm not sure if it's from the single. If you got the single though, you are free to share it here man!

The version of "Stars" was likely sourced from the DVD from the 'Japan Aid 2' concert in Showa Kinen Park, Tokyo on 4th October 1987.

I got this off the net (vinyl is easier than to rip your own, right), and made an mp3 rather than the pretty ridiculous 96/24 that they spent for a scratched vinyl. If someone thinks they want the so-called lossless (pressing a 12", wearing it and then playing it and recording it is not a lossless operation), then you can find that as well.

The live version is from the DVD easternthunder mentions. Could be a boot, but since he goes straight off the stage to a brief interview about benefit shows, and it has Japanese subtitles, it is fairly sure to be from that event.

Oh. Should have mentioned and saved you work:
Gates of Babylon is not with Dio. It is from Malmsteen's "Inspiration" album, with Jeff Scott Soto singing. Also appeared on the "Holy Dio" tribute album, where they copied/pasted Malmsteen's comment hailing Blackmore and not mentioning RJD at all.

Dio with Dickinson and McBrain: May 3rd 2000, see http://www.melodicrock.com/phorum52/read.php?1,939,939
Apparently, McBrain only plays on Rainbow in the Dark, but that is not clear from the audio.
