Just wondering if there is any particular reason for not having external links open a new window/browser as most other sites do these days?
Obviously right click can be our friend in these situations but having the site do it automatically is so much easier.

No, open a new window/tab/browser with any external link. (i.e links to Metal Archives, downloads, youtube etc).

What it basically means is that if you click a link to another site, then get interested in that site and start navigating around it you don't have to use the back button to get back to this site because it's still loaded in the original tab/window/browser. All you have to do is close the site you're finished with and this site is still there right at the page you left it.
