In 1988 Peter Dirkschneider (brother of Udo Dirkschneider) and Marcus Bielenberg left the Wuppertal, Germany, based band Danton. The following year they formed Vanize and supported Running Wild at a festival. Several line-up changes took place at this time. In 1990 the band did several shows together with bands like Coracko, Raven and Risk. In 1992 the band's first official demo tape was released and was chosen as "demo of the month" in Metal Hammer 11/92. More tha 2000 copies were sold worldwide. During 1993 Vanize did many shows throughout Germany with amongst others Tankard. They also started preparing their first cd production. The following year a record deal was signed with Cheerio Records and they recorded their debut album "Twins ?" in the Fleck Studios in Wuppertal. The album was released in 1995 with very good reviews in Metal Hammer (6/7), Rock Hard (7/10) and Horror Infernal (14/15) for example. The album was supported with many new live shows and sold more than 4000 copies. During 1996 the band did many German shows and also started working on new material. In 1997 they did their first big tour in Germany, supporting U.D.O. and Axxis on the "X-Mas Tour 1997". The following year they also supported U.D.O. on a Swedish tour. Udo Dirkschneider now established his own label Breaker Records and signed Vanize as his first band. Together with producer Stefan Kaufmann the band recorded their follow-up album "Bootlicker" in the Roxx Studio in Pulheim.
