U.S. Hard Rock quartet METALWORKS were formed in January 1980 in DeKalb County, Georgia.
By the years end the fledgling band had made their live debut, and had already written many of the songs which would form the backbone of their live set for years to come.
In the summer of 1981, the band recorded two songs ('In The Name Of Rock And Roll' & 'Queen For A Day') at Monarch Studios in Alpharetta, Georgia.
These songs were later submitted to radio station WKLS-FM (96Rock) for consideration for possible inclusion on a compilation LP the station was producing at the time.
Out of over 1100 submissions received, 'In The Name Of Rock And Roll' was one of only 12 songs finally selected for the 'WKLS-FM : Home Cookin' II' album
Released in the summer of 1982, the album saw Metalworks appear on vinyl for the first time alongside the likes of FORTNOX & ILLUSION.
In the autumn, Metalworks recorded another eight songs at Monarch Studios, hoping to secure a record deal with the completed tape.
However, unable to secure that elusive record deal despite a heavy gigging schedule and a great sounding demo, the group ultimately disbanded in mid 1983.
Following a move to California, George Baisch went on to front the hotly tipped UNITED SNAKES who were selling out famous Hollywood clubs like the Whiskey-A-Go-Go & The Coconut Teaser by the late '80's.
A production deal with the legendary Jimmy Iovine followed, but just when it looked like the band were headed for the big time, George was fired.
He then formed THE OUTPATIENCE with guitarist West Arkeen who had co-written several songs ("It's So Easy," "Patience," "Bad Obsession," "The Garden" & "Yesterdays"), recorded by his friends GUNS 'n' ROSES.
Arkeen also had compositions recorded by BROTHER CANE, PHANTOM BLUE, ASPHALT BALLET & DUFF McKAGAN.
The Outpatience recorded one album, 'Anxious Disease', but by the time of it's recording Baisch had been replaced on lead vocals by Mike Shotton, although he does appear on most of the record's tracks providing backing vocals.
Metalworks 10 archive recorded tracks were kept safe by producer Steve Starnes and engineer Larry Turner, and were successfully transfered into the digital medium in 2007.
This then resulted in the release of the band's complete recordings as the 'Unfinished Business' album later in the year on the Catapult label.
Tragically, Metalworks vocalist George Baisch didn't live to see the eventual release of his band's vintage material.
He died of an accidental drug overdose in April of 1996, aged just 35.
As a tribute to George Baisch, the Metalworks 'Unfinished Business' album was dedicated to his memory.
Former Metalworks drummer Mike Hinton now plays in a jazz combo, whilst guitarist Clay Hayes is currently a member of a Christian Rock band.
