Band Questions »  [SOLVED] WITCH (US) - SALEM'S RISE, Looking for all info possible!.
  • 5

  • I found a thread regarding the band at The Corroseum a while back and was happy to finally get to see the artwork for the
'Salem's Rise' album and even to hear a sample. I will forever be grateful to the man who published it!.

However, I am still looking for more info about this obscure record. Does anyone out there have any detailed info?. Especially the name of the band-members. Is it confirmed that they are from USA?, what city?. How many copies was pressed of SALEM'S RISE and why is it so little known about it?.

Everything you know are of interest!

(If you have this album in your possession, would it be possible to make a scan/or take a photo of the back cover/vinyl?)

I have 5 songs of this LP.....it is a very uneven album judging from these 5 songs....and very different in style one from the other, one is classic heavy metal, another is hard rock and one of them nearly psych.....in my opinion 1 song is great (''Lady in white'','', 3 just good ''Hear the thunder'',''Salem's rise'',''Loki'' & 1 average ''Something evil''...the only member I know is TED GEORGE who put out the single ''chained heat'' in 1984 on the same label with WITCH LP (Eargasm Records), 1 year before the LP. I don't remember the city/state...I think it's Tenesee but I am not sure at all....(sure from USA).
Perhaps, it's the most obscure/rare LP from USA nowadays.....3-4 copies known (I don't known how many copies it was pressed or whether the band has been found). I only know that the single was pressed in the micro quantity of 100 copies....so it's probable the LP to be pressed in similar quantity.
I am sure that people that own a copy won't help you learning any info.....especially if the band hasn't been found...it's reasonable to keep info for themselves....

It's a shame there isn't more known about this release, the spoiler song has got me completely hooked, totally earwormed!!! Aaaaargh!

To know it is not even among the best songs just adds to the frustration... And it isn't reasonable to keep the info for themselves, because: A) People who hold the record could make a lot of money because it's so rare - but for people to want it, they must know it exists; B) The band members could make some money, get a spot on a KIT lineup, re-print the LP, sell some t-shirts at least - information about the band must be given and the music must be known for this to happen...

This is a very strange case

Actually the song is called "Lady Medusa" (not "Lady In White")., they were not from Tenesee, but Dayton, Ohio.
You're correct about Ted George, he was the lead guitarist and producer of the album.

I don't think it's fair to keep WITCH unknown from the public any longer so in the next week or so I will publish
some info about the band, the recording session, the Eargasm label and the LP itself. After that I will mark this topic as solved.

Shortlived and very unknown band from Dayton, Ohio. Their only release was the 'Salem's Rise' LP recorded in Tim Groegan's

The album was released on Tim's label Eargasm Records in 1985 limited to 100 copies.
Ted Goerge also released several singles on Tim's label and later founded the band BLUE GLOVE.

Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Audio Productions, New Carlisle, OH.

    Executive Producer: Tim Grogean.

Good Omes to: L.D. Hampshire for keyboards, vocal characterizations, spells and general aggravation. Benny Phillips for all his
help in the past years, Peg, Joy, Connie, Laura, Kelly, Heather, Pokey, Boots, Dean Guitars, Marshall, Zildjan, Rick M., Jim, Old Man
Winter, Bud & J.D., Bonesy's, Wild Shirley, Dave, Pooh, Aunt Edna, The last unicorn & other goblins, dragons, dwarves, trolls, & mystical
creatures of the night. And a special thanks to all our friends, families & fans who supported us throughout the years -- we needed it.

A round of drinks and special thanks to: Tim Grogean and Mike Niklas for all of their hard work and time spent on the album,
and all the good times and parties at Eargasm Productions.

Great job Strapp, tons of thanks for all this info. Seriously obscure stuff here, is this your copy? From the sample tracks i'd say this is a very underrated band. I really like the "Unearthing the Obscure" idea also and hope to see more obscure rarities like this one. If there's anything we can do to help let us know.

Many thanks for all your efforts mate, much apprerciated. Cheers!!!!!

Yeah the scans and samples comes from my copy which I finally found after many years of search!.
"Unearthing the Obscure" is something I wanted to do for a long time but it's usually ends up as downloads instead,
however WITCH was a great start on the series as I know some people was interested in info more than a simple download.

I have a lot of info on Swedish bands not yet published anywhere as I don't have any complete or enough sound
material with them, but as the serie focus more on giving detailed info it could be perfect. Part II will probably be
about the Swedish band TORSTEN and the later formation SEARCH (who was even heavier).

If you or someone else have something unknow let me know.
METAL MERCHANT is a top priority :D
