1983 are printed on the label of the Roadrunner issue.. Maybe it was pressed just before 1984 and the Neat release just after. Or just a regular misstake.. I don't really know..
This album... well I've taken a look and can imagine where the confusion comes from. The cover says 1984 roadrunner records. The label on the vinyl says 1983 roadrunner records. Sorry I don't have the salesslip anymore, so can't tell which year I actually bought it.
Nico ps never seen the Neat records release ps2The Opening ritual (4 track 12") was made in 1982 and released on Elemental records.
the NEAT press was only for release in the UK I think, Roadrunner was licensed to sell it to the rest of the world. So the Roadrunner press are therefore more common I guess.
I wasn't born when the vinyl was released so I can't tell by memory either.
The answer is 1984. The 1983 was a misprint. I have the Castle/Sanctuary CD reissue, and it states in the liner-notes going through the band history, that in 1982 they released their EP on their own Elemental Music Label, but it took more than a year for the band to finally get a record deal, which they did in 1984 with Neat Records. Also it states that all the songs on the album have copyright date 1984.
And most importantly, this album is fucking awesome!!
