HAZE was formed in Sheffield during 1978 by ex LONG WAVE BAND and ICE brothers Chris and Paul McMahon.
The first line-up of the NWoBHM/Progressive Rock act also included Keyboard player Michael Powell and drummer Andy McNaughton, although Powell had departed by April 1979 as Haze trimmed down to a trio.
In June 1981 McNaughton left to be replaced by ex SENSIBLE SHOES drummer Dave Kirkham, before the release of their first single, "The Night/Dig Them Mushrooms", on Mushroom Records.
This line-up lasted until mid 1982 when Kirkham was out in favour, replaced by ex CLOUDBURST drummer Arthur Deas.
However, Deas injured his hand and his position was temporarily covered by a returning Andy McNaughton until ex KARBERKECK drummer Paul Chisnell took over on a permanent basis.
Haze released a cassette only album in 1983 entitled 'The Cellar Tapes' prior to another vinyl effort, 'C'est La Vie' in 1984.
There was a further cassette album, 'Cellar Replay', in 1985, and a 4 song vinyl EP entitled "The Ember".
In 1986 there were a further two cassette albums 'Warts N All' and 'Old, New, Borrowed And Blue', and another single, "Tunnel Vision"
The band were involved in a serious road smash in 1986 that delayed the release of their second vinyl album, 'Stoat And Bottle'.
Another cassette album ' The Peterborough Tapes And...' was then put out in 1987.
Although Paul Chisnell left in 1988, Haze kept up the momentum releasing the cassette albums, 'Humphrey', 'Last Orders' and a live recording of the last Haze gig, performed at Sheffield University.
With the demise of Haze Chris McMahon joined SYDNEY BRIDGE AND THE HARBOUR quickly followed by BAD ASS MOTHERS and WINSTON N'GOBOLA before being reunited with brother Paul in late 1988 in RODENTS OF UNUSUAL SIZE.
During early 1989 the duo formed the ALEN SHAW QUARTET with vocalist Alen Shaw and PENDRAGON drummer Fudge Smith.
This act renamed itself within weeks BASTARD CUSTARD then WORLD TURTLE with ex KALAMAZOO drummer Nick Beesley entering the fold.
Whilst all this activity was going on Chris McMahon formed a side project band called VON DANIKEN in April 1989, releasing an album, "New Worlds" the following year.
The McMahon brothers teamed up once more in WORLD TURTLE with PENDRAGON drummer Fudge Smith in May 1989 and recorded the 'Alien Shore' demo.
In April 1991 the band retitled itself ALIEN SHORE, and by June had a fresh drummer in Sam Carr.
Another name change saw the adoption of the new title GROOVE TABOO, before Carr quit to join CHICKEN ASS BLUES BAND.
Von Daniken then found the time to record and release their second album, "Transient".
In 1992 the McMahon brothers once more resurrected WORLD TURTLE.
The Haze members can also to be found in the 'Heavy Wood' Folk Rock act TREEBEARD, which grew out of another side project called ACOUSTIC HAZE.
Treebeard have released two albums to date, "Heavy Wood" and "Reel Ale".
Reuniting in 1994 once more, Haze released a brand new album, confusingly titled "World Turtle", on Cyclops Records.
Over the years since the band have re-released most of their back catalogue on CD, often with previously unheard bonus material added.
2013 saw the release of the first brand new Haze studio recordings for nearly 20 years, as the "The Last Battle" album.
The new record sees the McMahon brothers reunited with drummer Paul Chisnell, and two new additional members, sisters Ceri and Catrin Ashton, who also play in Treebeard.
The band have been much more active as a live act recently than they've been for a long time, and have toured extensively in support of the new record.
Unfortunately Paul Chisnell has been forced to retire from live performance due to increasingly bad tinnitus.
His replacement in Haze is Danny McMahon of THE OUTLANDISH KNIGHTS.
