Flexi 7" promotional record. Given out in Rockin'f magazines. This was co-released by X Japan's own label Extasy Records, as well as the magazine/label Rockin'f, who distributed the album.
Also looks like there is other release of same record in same day which was independetly released by band.
Funny fact is that while this release has string "Original Japanese Version" on flexi cover actually this version is half japanese half english. Fully japanese version was released on Blue Blood album.

From my own collection, X Japan's rare Rockin'f magazine giveaway flexi, and one of the earliest versions of Kurenai. This version is entirely unique to this flexi, even though it's promoting Vanishing Vision, the audio quality is rather coarse, and Hide's acoustic intro which appears on album versions is subbed off for a Yoshiki piano intro and the song overall is less refined than what ended up on the album. Still a cool piece for X Japan fans. Enjoy!

I just merged my topic with yours, didn't realize I'd made a duplicate. I don't believe your upload is the sonic sheet version of this song, but rather "kurenai original japanese version" especially given the artwork, which was how I'd missed your post when checking for duplicates. No big deal though.

I am myself unsure which version is it for now. I've found it on internet as "Sonic Sheet Version" without any artworks with it. But when I was posting it I decided to take that cover for reasons not clear for me now. I believe I thought that flexi's sometimes are called sonic sheets.
Because they are flexible as paper sheet) Now I think "sonic sheet" term are used as synonim to music sheet term. But google cannot find any example of using "sonic sheet" in such way. Only as music sheet for music from Sonic games)
What matters is that my version has time length 5:33. It's a same exact as time length specified on metal-archives for "Sonic Sheet Version".
But difference in time length between "Sonic Sheet Version" and "Original Japanese Version" is only 1 second! It's so minor so it cannot be taken as solid valid argument in such case. But without other evidences for one or other version this fact leads us to conclusion that my version is "Sonic Sheet Version" still.
I think I have to change cover and you better cut your post to your own topic after all) Or what your thoughts?
Also, I think both versions are taken from exactly the same audiosource due to their near similiar length and same release date for both of them.

Oh, I found an argument for "Original Japanese Version". My file has vinyl hiss. Only on super rare occasions such his can pop up on cd rip. And "Sonic Sheet Version" was released on cd.
I will change topic name to correct one and point users to your rip because it's better)

And you know what, I just had a thought, what if they're both the exact same thing with different art for both Rockin'f and X Japan to distribute individually? When I bought my flexi, the "Original Japanese Version" type, it said on the back that it was co-released by both X Japan and Rockin'f, so what if X Japan gave a bunch for Rockin'f to hand out, and gave out the rest with a different sleeve for free at shows. That would explain the piano intro version of the song which was said to only ever be on one physical release being released as two different entities. How weird haha.

I think you are right. "Original Japanese Version" flexi was distributed with Rockin F' magazine and "Sonic Sheet" cd are released independently. So X could easil made them for distribution on their shows or, one more version, directly mailed it to members of fan-club as it had happened with Xclamation VHS.

Don't know if this is overkill, since it's already been posted, but here's a lossless quality version.

Does anyone happen to have the sheet for this version of Kurenai? It apparently was in the same magazine (Rockin'f 1988.06) as this flexi was distributed in. It also apparently was scanned and uploaded to xboards, but the guy who uploaded it there is inactive and the link is dead since long.
