Progressive metal band Thought Industry was formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1989. Their initial demo was a very popular item in the Kalamazoo area, and eventually made its way into the hands of Jason Newsted, then-bassist of Metallica. On his recommendation, the band was signed to Metal Blade Records.
