Here's something unique. An album with music that has been described as sounding sort of like a mix between Alice in Chains, Korn and Dream Theater.
The melodies are clearly influenced by Alice in Chains. The guitars are downtuned to B, which help to make the music very heavy (this was before 7 string guitars became common, so apparently it is an ordinary 6 string guitar that has been very downtuned).
Even if the music sounds grungy, there is an underlying technicality both in the compositions and in the musicians which definitely is not grunge.
The guitar player (who also sings), Derek Taylor, is a true virtuoso and sometimes he really shines during solos. He has released some solo albums on classical shred label Shrapnel records.
It took me some time to find this one. It is very rare on CD and expensive if you manage to find it. I finally found it online on a russian website
