Гамлет (Hamlet) was one of very numerous local hard-rock bands, scattered across the huge territory of USSR. It was founded in 1987 in the small town of Kopeisk, and been active until the late 1990s. Actually it had almost cult status in its native town but almost unknown outside of it.
The band was personified by frontman, Andrey Simonov who was an amazing and talented vocalist, in 1994 he has won big TV vocal contest "Yalta-Moscow Transit" (go check this YT-link for the amazing selection of contest songs including two different takes of Europe's «Carrie» ballad) but things go downhill after that – Hamlet has disbanded slowly, and Andrey was killed in 2003.



This album is dated 1987 and consists of two recording sessions. Sound-quality is not that good here but after some listenings you will be used to it. Overall is it melodic hard rock of decent quality, and some songs here («Старый Причал», «Незнакомец В Плаще» and «Петля» to name but a few) are really great to my taste. In my opinion Гамлет was very talented and inspired band but disruption of Iron Curtain hadn't helped it anyhow… Troubled times have overcame all intentions of Andrey Simonov and his band. Anyway, the citizens of Kopeisk still keep the good memories of Andrey and consider him as a legendary artist of their small town.
