Formed 1982 Riverside, CA, USA by THE MISUNDERSTOOD band mates, viz. Glenn Ross Campbell and Rick Brown. A number of players passed through before settling on the line up of Rick Brown, Glenn Campbell, John Hudson, and Tommy Gunn. In 1983 "No Survivors / Queen of Madness 7"" were released through Rough Trade Records in UK. Both songs were co written by Campbell and Brown. Lyrics for both songs were by band associates Austin Gordon & Kevin Reach, as credited on the record. The recordings were produced in Hollywood by Kevin Reach, and the final Mastering was done for Rough Trade Records by Reggie Fisher, also in Hollywood.
The band's symbol was the "Influence" from I Ching. From 1983-1985 Influence played the LA hard rock circuit of venues but really couldn't fit in any where on the music scene, which was bursting with "glam", "metal" and "smile" bands. Most people didn't want to hear depressing songs about, "No Survivors" and Atomic War. It was the 1980s and anti-war, psychedelic, "message bands" were out of style. The band finally split in 1985, when Campbell moved to New Zealand and Brown moved to Thailand.. But not before recording 14 cuts, including these two, which were all released on CD in 1999 by UK's Cherry Red Records under the title "Broken Road" by THE MISUNDERSTOOD. This CD also features a LIVE version of Bo Diddley's MONA which is so heavy that Cherry Red Records, in the liner notes, say it sounds like "Howling Wolf swallowed whole by Eric Burdon".
Several other players contributed to various Influence recorded material, including former THE MISUNDERSTOOD bass player, Steve Whiting (on guitar), Chris (on guitar), late Les Morrison, formally with Mystics and Dirty Blues Band (Rod Piazza's bands), on Bass, and Roy Sweden on drums. As credited on the record, Kevin Reach of Hollywood was the main producer of both songs; and noted producer, Reggie Fisher of Hollywood, did the final master and mix for this Rough Trade Record. The single was released in UK but not promoted at all. The mix on this single differs much from the Cherry Red, Broken Road, demo versions.
