D.D.T. were a Canadian Heavy Metal band, first formed in Magog, Quebec way back in 1979 around the nucleus of brothers; Pierre, Paul & François Tougas.
For the next 12 years the band played live relentlessly, clocking up over 1000 shows across Canada & the U.S.A., both as a headline act in clubs and on larger stages as support to the likes of countrymen ANVIL, SWORD & VOIVOD.
They made their vinyl debut with the independent 5 song 'Let The Screw...Turn You On' 45 rpm 12" Mini LP on their own Productions Wasted label in 1984. Now highly prized by collectors of '80's Metal, the self-financed record was produced in a limited edition of just 1000 copies.
The title track was also featured on the following years 'Moose Molten Metal ' compilation LP, released by Capitol Records where they appeared alongside Canadian Heavy Metal peers such as WITCHKILLER, TZAR & DAGGER. The group also made a promo video for the song.
The group were to record seven seperate demo tapes (comprising of 39 original songs) between 1983 and 1991.
By the time 1991 rolled around D.D.T.'s music had taken a different direction, morphing into a retro-referencing psychedelic brand of Hard Rock that dovetailed quite nicely with the emerging (so called) 'Grunge' scene.
After 12 years as D.D.T. they felt it was time for a re-brand and re-named themselves after the title track of the last D.D.T. demo, taking on the new band name of ADAM'S APPLES.
Wasting no time, the newly named act immediately redistributed the previously released D.D.T. demo under the Adam's Apples name & set about winning over a new audience with their powerful live shows.
Having had songs featured on four different compilation albums over the next few years, the band then self-financed a full length album in 1995, with the Tougas brothers joined by former DEAF DEALER drummer Ross Richard by the time of it's recording.
The 13 song 'Lovedrive' album was certainly a departure from their previous sound, with a style comparible to that of similarly retrophile peers such as I LOVE YOU & LIQUID SKY, grungers BLIND MELON & fellow countrymen I, MOTHER EARTH, (but without the latter's slap bass obsession).
The mature & well-produced recording also owed a certain debt of inspiration to more classic bands such as LED ZEPPELIN, particularly on the epic seven & a half minutes of the album's centrepiece 'Days Of Babylon'.
Despite the album's undoubted quality, there was to be no follow-up record, as Adam's Apples called it a day the following year and went their seperate ways.
That could well have been the end of the Tougas brothers collective musical endeavour, but they were approached in the early 2010's by the specialist Greek Heavy Metal label No Remorse Records about reissuing the 'Let The Screw...' Mini LP, which eventually came to pass in 2013.
However, this re-release ended up including far more music than just the original Mini LP's meagre 5 songs. Also included were 5 of the bands archive demo tapes with additional vintage live tracks spread across the anthology's 2-CD format.
The process of reliving old memories & music whilst bringing their old material to a whole new audience in this retrospective release proved to be the catalyst which finally brought the Tougas brothers back together as a band & in 2014 they announced their return to performing under the D.D.T. name.
The 2014 iteration of D.D.T. featured the 3 Tougas brothers playing alongside original drummer Sylvain "Syd" D'Arcy (who had been with them from 1979 to 1987), and second guitarist Philippe "Pat" Tougas, Pierre's son, & nephew of the other Tougas brothers.
This new version of the band played several live shows & released the 13 song live concert DVD 'Still Toxic' in 2018, which was filmed on April 7th that year at Le National in Quebec, but are currently inactive once more.
In 2018, the 5-song Mini LP was re-issued on vinyl in a limited individualy numbered reissue by the Return To Analog label on opaque red wax.
Paul Tougas now plays with THE JUDAS PRIEST EXPERIENCE, a JP Tribute band which also includes members of HEAVENKNOX, whilst François has an experimental World Music project called SWA who have released an album called 'Aboriginal Sound Waves'.
