This Philadelphia area group originally started in 1984 under the name Metalwolf. The members included vocalist Dave Fife, bassist Jeff Apsche, guitarists Jay Janns and Bryon Shepherd, and drummer Brandt. Metalwolf would independently release the 1986 record “Down To The Wire”.
The band would undergo a facelift over the next few years with Shepherd leaving the band, Billy Riker replacing Apsche and Timmy Fitz taking over the vocals, with Fife moving over to guitar. With all the changes came the bands new moniker Wolvz. It wasn’t long before the group caught the eye of A&R maven Jeff Miller from Grudge Records. He saw the band at the Cat Club and soon the band were signed and in the studio recording their first record “Down & Dirty.” The band did tours that included shows with acts such as Y&T, Jason Bonham, Kix and another local act named Cinderella. The record would fail to sell on a large scale and the band eventually broke up.
